“It can happen to anybody at any time,” the man in the wheelchair, Brian Sterner, warned “Hopefully, that’s what will come out of this, that this negative way of dealing with life and people will change.”
The incident, captured on surveillance video and viewed by thousands on the Internet, occurred on Jan. 29 when Sterner was being booked in the county jail on a warrant for a traffic violation. It came to light only in the past week when Sterner, still angry at the treatment he received, called a Tampa television reporter, who obtained the tape and broke the story.

Will Sikes, a junior and plant science major at the University of Arizona, competes in Men’s Wheelchair Basketball. Will tells that among the reasons he chose the UA were Tucson’s weather, the academic and athletic opportunities, and because the campus is very accessible. Will says that the fitness and conditioning center acts as a nexus point for the sense of community that we have at the UA.
At the University of Arizona, disabled athletes have the opportunity to compete in a variety of sports, including Wheelchair Track, Quad Rugby, Tennis, Men’s & Women’s Wheelchair Basketball, and Goalball, a sport for the blind and visually impaired. Each athlete in our Adaptive Athletics Program is expected to meet high academic standards and represent his/her school and community with pride and professionalism. In return, they are able to compete nationwide and internationally in their respective sports against world-class athletes, and have access to training, practice facilities, and staff here at the University of Arizona campus. http://drc.arizona.edu/athletics/index.html

Bethel Ministries International gives wheelchairs to the poor in Todos Santos, Guatemala
Duration : 0:6:2
This three-minute video clip shows six people singing. A young woman in street clothes in a wheelchair sings in the foreground. Next to her is a young man wearing a black fedora hat, also in a wheelchair and singing. In the background are three women dressed in pale blue nurses scrubs. They wear pink, orange and red wigs and stethoscopes hang from their necks. They have worried expressions on their faces as they caress a TV set with a rabbit ears antenna. The TV set sits on a white sheet draped bed. A man dressed in a doctors white robe sits on the bed next to the TV set. He examines the TV with medical tools, tapping the TV, sings, and leaves the scene. When the nurses sing the chorus they make faces and wave their arms. A blind man then sits in front of the TV holding a white cane. He sings the second verse. The nurses chorus again sings. They wave a large red government coupon and two cable TV boxes. A converter box is plugged into a TV set. In the final scene, the chorus nurses, man in doctors coat, man with white cane, and two people in wheelchairs sing again. As the verse ends they are pelted with tiny red government coupons by a hand that reaches into the scene. The final image is of a TV set.
