"Obama Snubs Nation's Heroes, Becomes the First President to Skip Ball Honoring Medal of Honor Recipients in Over 50 Years

Barack Obama may have stumbled over his words briefly during his inauguration, but he made an even bigger blunder later Tuesday evening. The newly sworn-in President opted not to appear at what should have been one of the most important Balls on his agenda that evening - The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball.

The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball was begun in 1953 for President Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration. The event recognized recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military award. There were 48 Medal of Honor recipients in attendance, who were undoubtedly disappointed by the Commander-in-Chief's failure to show. Over the past 56 years and 14 inaugurations, no President has skipped this event - until now.

The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball is sponsored by the American Legion, and co-sponsored by 13 other veteran's service organizations, including those such as the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Instead of attending this ball honoring our nation's heroes, Obama was busy making stops at 10 other official balls. Obama and his wife's first stop was at the Neighborhood Ball. From there they went to the Home State Ball for Illinois and Hawaii, the Commander-in-Chief Ball, the Youth Inaugural Ball, and the Home State Ball for Delaware and Pennsylvania. They finished off the night with brief appearances at the Mid-Atlantic, Western, Midwest, Eastern, and Southern regional Balls.

oh stop looking for ways to critize. give the man a chance. he had avery busy day and did good show up at the places he showed up at. he would have been critized by someone one way or another. he is only one man and there are only so many hours in the day.

I think it's all about show and that's it. Today was the March for Life and unfortunately it did not get the attention it deserved. I doubt that the rich and famous showed up for this one. To me, Obama is not the person to demonstrate patriotism for this country. I can't wait to see what will happen to the US under His "reign". Gladly I don't have to answer to him but God.

He isn't worthy anyway. I'm sure when Clinton (the first president since FDR with no military experience) showed up, the attendees were probably wishing he hadn't. So I think Obama (the second president since FDR with no military experience) not showing up was probably ok with our nation's finest.

its because he is a liberal. liberals "say" they support the troops but they want to take their guns away. he is also reducing the military funding.

"It was the party without all of the celebrities that Obama skipped. The very people who he sought to have support him during his candidacy and campaign, who have fought to protect this country, were snubbed in favor of publicity and the opportunity to rub shoulders - yet again - with the out-of-touch Hollywood elite."

that cleveland leader article does not sound objective to me.

CRAIGGERS!:

What kind of a sorry SoS do you have to be to not go to the ball honoring MoH recepients? What a stain his presidency is already turning out to be - and what do you mean "Give him a chance…" We did, and he skipped a ball for people far more deserving of honour than he is. Zark him.

He Didn't Snub Them (People, seriously, look stuff up, the only references are on right-wing propaganda websites, the same ones that have led the easily led to all kinds of lies about our president, the Commander-in-Chief's Ball is where he gave homage to our troops) There was NO Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball

President Barack Obama spoke to deployed U.S. service members via satellite during the Commander in Chief's Ball in downtown Washington, D.C., Jan. 20, 2009. Three hundred wounded warriors from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., attended the ball.

In fact the American Legion page doesn't have a reference to "The Salute to Heroes" ball at all and the latest from the DoD has the last ball in 2005.

People of Obama's cloth loathe the military and those who protect the flock for reasons being from their perspective we are too extreme and harsh. When exposed to the harsh realities of what the enemy will do without our protection, only then, if they have any kind of intelligence do they realize what we really exist for. Then, we are heroes.

A Medal of Honor recipient is the epitome of heroism and it is easily forgotten in the current trend of labeling everyone, from athletes to victims that did nothing at all, a hero. The mere fact he is allowed to get away with it is a total and utter disgrace to Veterans and military service members everywhere.

If he can easily disgrace the most honored of the Military past and present, how will he treat the common soldier, sailor, airman, and Marine?

If you've never served, you need to carefully and humbly step down and not press your opinions on this matter too deeply, for you have not a clue nor a basis to begin a defense for his actions in this instance.

because hollywood is full of pompus liberal jackasses and the people of america seem to care more about the opinions of people who don't who really haven't done anything with their life than the opinions of the people who have risked their lives defending them. it really pisses me off

Hollywood is more glamorous and has the money.
Too bad he snubbed the real heroes. I bet there will be a lot more missed opportunities having to do with the military during the next four years.
