How much of a discount do the disabled persons get on Amtrak?
Posted by admin | Under disabled Sunday Feb 1, 2009Can someone tell me how much a disabled discount is on amtrak from Los Angeles Union Station to Santa Barbara? The dates for our trip are August 17th. That is our departure date and we are going one way. Please help!
Call Amtrak. The prices change periodically and that is the only way to know. They are discounted 15%.

The discount for the disabled is 15%. According to the Amtrack site (http://www.amtrak.com), from Los Angeles Union Station to Santa Barbara is either $16 or $25 for one adult. The difference seems to be in the time you go, or reserved vs. unreserved…I'm not sure. Call Amtrak to find out exact rate. If it is $16, then a disabled adult rate will be -$2.40, which makes the total $13.60. If it costs $25, then the cost of a disabled adult ticket is $21.25.
Too bad you're not going further…when I went on Amtrak, I got a couch seat for an overnight ride, but since the 'handicapped' room wasn't in use, they upgraded me free of charge to a sleeper car all my own, which included free lunch, dinner, and breakfast, and I slept much better than I would have in a couch seat. They were really nice, and there was a disability representative, and that's who made the upgrade for me…there were other people with disabilities on the train, but they determined that as someone who is legally blind, I would benefit most from my own room…it was nice, not having to trip over people's stuff in the aisle to get to the bathroom, and getting free meals was a good deal…train meals are not cheap!

Math in my head, and my experience with Amtrak…I think they're awesome, take real good care of everyone, disabled or not.
phone them up and see how much you get nocked off.
