What type of job could I get in Mexico as a disabled-combat veteran of the US?

Wednesday Dec 24, 2008

Maybe consulate, Embassy, Dept of Defense, State Dept foriegn Affairs? Any one have any first hand experiance with these types of jobs in Mexico? How would I go about applying for and getting one of these jobs? Any helpful websites? Thanks.

Joe,

Being a disabled vet doesn't cut you any slack in any country other than our own. Your best bet is to find a rabbi in the VA, and/or a congressman and have them help you fight the battles of trying to work for one of our government agencies. It would also help if you have something to offer other than the grunt work you may have done in the military.

Well you need to find a vacancy first on USAJOBS.gov, and before you build a government resume see your state veteran job rep to help you with tips on applying.

The federal HR process has three important factors.

1. Key words on your resume that ofter found in the duties portion of the announcement.
2. Hiring Authority like VRA, VEOA, 30% or more disabled veteran, and former NAF employees.
3. Experience.
