I am jobless and homeless. Here is my question. Why did you turn me down for work?

Wednesday Dec 17, 2008

Why did you turn a Disabled Veteran down for work? why do you hate to hire a Disabled Veteran ? Why do you want to make all Disabled Veterans homeless and Jobless?
I would love to here your answers to the question that I just asked you. What did I as a United States of American Disabled Veteran ever do to you?
Dear Editor;

It was and is a real great honor to sever this nation as a United States Veteran. I am also will to give up my life so that you can have freedom once more. I would do it just for you. I am proud to be called a United States Veteran. And I thank you for letting me give up my life for you.

Did you know that we veterans ask only one thing in return? We would like to work and work hard at a job so that we are not homeless, or hungry, cold.

We veterans are treated so bad when we come home from serving our nation, that we are hated by all.

I have this very question why do you hate us? What did we do to treated this way? What did we do wrong? Why won’t you hire us and give us a Job? What does it take for us Vets to get a job? Who do we see, where do we go? You tell us.

We here the promises that are made to Veterans like me from both the private sector, and our governments. Yet they all turn out to be lies. I hope and pray that theses are not lies, but the truths.

How much longer must we Veterans have to suffer because we gave up our lives so that you can have freedom?

I have a dream that one day I to as a US. Veteran will have a job and a place to call home.
I am hopping that day will be tomorrow. I wish it was today or even yesterday.

Here is the real problem you say you will hire us, but when it comes right down to it you will not do it. Then why don’t you hang a sign up that say the real truth Vets need not apply we will not and shall not hire any US. Veterans please leave.

Finely what does it take to end this problem?

I am a US. Veteran that loves you so much that I am will to die for you so that you can have your freedom. Hire me please thank you

Terry Virgil US. Veteran

I think you will get your answers from the business that you are applying to. None of us here could tell you why or why not a certain empoyer will hire you.

I'd hire you if you got off your pity party trip and told me how you could help my business.

maybe you got turned down because your english/writing skills are not up to par. go back and have someone proof-read your letter, and then you may get a better response!

Well, what can you do. There isn't a big deman for disabled people who shoot M-16s.

What was your MOS, if it was infantry you have an educational and MOS problem.

I know two people in wheel chairs who are checkers at Wal Mart. So there are obvious jobs, but you have to be able to work a cash register or clean toilets or design aircraft because you have skills.

If you are homeless, then where are you getting your Internet connection from? If you are disabled there is money that you can get from the government to help you. I am not a disabled vet and have been turned down for jobs also. All Americans appreciate our servicemen, but just because you are bitter of the fact you didn't get a certain job doesn't change that.

Hi, Terry,
Your anger and pain come through your writing clearly. I can't imagine everything you are dealing with right now. I truly wish you the best.
As far as constructive answers to your question go, I can only give you this: the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) offers some protection to people with disabilities. If you are qualified for the job, and you are mentally and physically able to perform the job, employers are required to give you due consideration for that job (but they are not required to hire you over a more qualified person.) They are also required to make 'reasonable accommodations' (I think there's a dollar amount attached to defining that, but I don't know what it is) for employees that have disabilities. Those accomodations could be physcial, like minor restructuring to allow wheelchair access, or use of a keyboard or hands-free telephone, or they could be things like altering a work schedule for shorter days or more breaks. Do you have a VA (or other agency) case worker who could give you a clearer picture of your rights and help you identify some options? If not, see if you can get yourself hooked up with them.
Best wishes.
