can i get disabled veteran plates in texas with a diagnosis of sctizoaffective disorded
I'm a 100% disabled veteran. I have a Texas Disabled Veterans lisence plate which I pay $3.00 a year for. The Department of Veterans affairs sends you a letter EVERY year stating you have a !00% disability rating. If you are 100% Service connected and you don't have the above letter, you can go to the nearest V.A. Regional office and they will give you one. You send a copy of it along with a copy of your DD214 to the Texas Department of Transportation along with a check or money order, oh ya you have to send your vhechile registration in to. I would CALL TxDot first to make sure. If you go to TxDot's web site and check you will find out all the info you are seeking. Look under "Speacial Plates"
im 100% va service connected can i get disabled veteran plates in texas if i have a reevaluation in the future?
Posted by admin | Under disabled veteran Sunday Feb 8, 2009Where can a disabled Veteran go for college?
Posted by admin | Under disabled veteran Sunday Jan 25, 2009I am a disabled veteran. What is a good Minnesotan college for me? If I remember right, I had a 26 on my ACT and a 3.0 GPA. If, none of the Minnesotan colleges work where else can I go?
well, if you can handle doing online learning, you could check out Colorado Technical University. Although there are some 'low rated' aspects to the institution, they DO have some veterans scholarships and they are regionally accredited.
Does anyone know how a disabled veteran can get assistance ?
Posted by admin | Under disabled veteran Sunday Jan 25, 2009There is a yahoo answers poster who goes by the name "broken veteran" we have emailed a few times and he really needs some assistance with purchasing a vehicle he can use with his wheelchair . any ideas ?
Aside from contacting the Veterans Administration, I was told I should contact the manufacturer of whatever car I was interested in. Some of the companies have offers of adapting a vehicle at little to no charge. I am also a Disabled Veteran and found the offers very with the manufacturer and were limited to the purchase of a new vehicle. This has been several years for me and it was found more appropriate to have braces on my legs as opposed to modifications of the vehicle so I cannot give any current information. One point that was informative was that some of the representatives were also able to find information on programs that also may assist with adapting a vehicle to meet the persons needs. Aside from this, one may contact their church, city hall and local social services which may also be of some assistance.
Good luck and thanks for being there and trying to help.
Edit: to Broken Vetran, I have just read your answer. A monthly check from the VA for $243 would mean that you have a low rating. I have been out of the military (Army) since 1991 and was evaluated in 1992 when the paperwork was finally done. Months after the evaluation, I was rated at 30%. I appealed several times and was reevaluated each time and the rating was changed 4 times, 40%,50%,80% and finally 100%. If you are unable to work due to your disability, there is a provision that you are able to be rated at 100%. It is sometimes difficult to get the rating and one must have patience and persistance, mine was finally given in 2000 after 9 years of fighting. I was evaluated through my other isnurance and it took only one time to rate me at 100%. Keep filing for reevaluations if you do not agree with the assessment, they also give backpay if the rating is increased.
Good luck,
Tom
Disabled Veteran Govt and State Contract Preference ?
Posted by admin | Under disabled veteran Sunday Jan 11, 2009I am a service connected disabled looking to team up with a business owner to see if they want to take advantage of my state (Florida) and govt contracting preference to see if they want to obtain state and govt contracts. Where should I be looking and who should I be talking to?
Usually the state and/or federal government require that the business be owned by the veteran, at least 51% to be classified as veteran owned and entitled to the programs offered to veterans.
If you have a trade or service you think you may be able to provide to the state, register yourself as a business and use your local SBA office for guidence, and good luck.
Where to find a disabled Iraq war veteran to marry?
Posted by admin | Under disabled veteran Sunday Jan 4, 2009I have been in Iraq and know how it feels. I wish to marry a disabled Iraq veteran. Where can I find someone like that? I am looking for a life-long marriage, not something for now.
Thanks a lot!
Getting married for those reasons is a wrong reason to get married. You have no idea what comes with marrying somebody who is a disabled Iraq war vet.
My husband and I suffer each day. The benefits we get suck. And because he cannot work we have no health care. Unless he can get 100% which we have been fighting for 2 years to get. He is currently at 90%.
The VA doctors suck and the Psychiatrists they have are scumbags.
My husband's told my husband the last time there was no proof he had PTSD since there was no proof he was in combat.
I GOT SO MAD AND YELLED AT HIM ASKING HIM,
IF THERE WAS NO PROOF THEN WHY DID HE EARN THE COMBAT ACTION RIBBON??
He didn't have any answer for that.
Appointments are hard to get and if you made an appointment today you won't be seen until February for anything.
The stress a disabled vet and his or her family go through is beyond what you can imagine.
Going to Iraq is one thing.
Dealing with the VA when you come back in another and realizing the government don't give a rats *** about you when you are broken is another.
My husband has 2 knees that are destroyed and his back has so many scars from the holes they had to cut open to remove shrapnel from it. He can't stand or sit for long periods or time.
What type of job could I get in Mexico as a disabled-combat veteran of the US?
Posted by admin | Under disabled veteran Wednesday Dec 24, 2008Maybe consulate, Embassy, Dept of Defense, State Dept foriegn Affairs? Any one have any first hand experiance with these types of jobs in Mexico? How would I go about applying for and getting one of these jobs? Any helpful websites? Thanks.
Joe,
Being a disabled vet doesn't cut you any slack in any country other than our own. Your best bet is to find a rabbi in the VA, and/or a congressman and have them help you fight the battles of trying to work for one of our government agencies. It would also help if you have something to offer other than the grunt work you may have done in the military.

No cause USC 10 prohibits any one ever disabled over 30% from being on active status, and most conditions are service disqualifies.
Can a Permanently Disabled Veteran collect any Social Security Benefits ?
Posted by admin | Under disabled veteran Friday Dec 12, 2008I was hospitalized at a Military Hospital in 1979, and was subsequently given an Honorable Discharge. The VA granted me a Service Connected Disability at 100% which was deemed as Permanent 100% in 1989.
I am now 58 years old and with all the rising costs of living, the VA Disability Income is not meeting all my living expenses. Is a person in this situation qualified to receive any Social Security Benefits ?
It depends if you paid in sufficient quarters and what your present insured status is. You would have had to work at least 5 of the last ten years or have documentation to prove disability back further. Old medical records are ofter hard to get. Given your age though a claim for DIB can be relatively easy if you are eligible. Please feel free to call my office for a completely free consultation. We represent clients all over the nation in Social Security claims. Your VA disability should weigh heavily with the SSA.

Is it legal for a circuit court judge to garnish the VA retirement payments of a disabled veteran?
Posted by admin | Under disabled veteran Saturday Nov 29, 2008
If you have a family that you are not supporting, they can give the family an apportionment of your benefits. In most other cases, I don't believe they can touch your VA pension–UNLESS you received a VA overpayment, or money from other sources that you didn't report to VA.
How do disabled veterans feel about republicans?
Posted by admin | Under disabled veteran Saturday Nov 29, 2008Does anyone know the republicans record on helping disabled veterans? What do the polls say in regards to how the republicans treat disabled veterans? Has the republicans made it harder to qualify for veterans benefits?
Should the soldiers have to worry about their Grandma's social security while fighting for their country?
Please watch Fox News instead of believing the liberal media who just tell stories based on fiction.. Republicans are the majority for a reason you know - and they support the war cause they know why we are there - they did not forget - just like the soldiers believe in it -
